Menopause is a natural event that normally occurs between the age of 45 to 55 years. When menstruation stops ovaries are no longer producing their normal amount of estrogen , which is dominant female hormone.
Weight gain, hot flushes, night sweats, tension, sleeplessness, bad temper, diminished interest in sex, irritability, depression are main symptoms of menopause. Other symptoms are fatigue, palpitation, giddiness, headache, numbness.
We advice :
1.Balancing doshas – Vata type menopausal symptoms tend to include depression, anxiety, insomnia. Women with Pitta type symptoms are often angry, suffer irritability & hot flushes.Kapha type symptoms include weight gain, fatigue, numbness. After assessment of dosha imbalance we suggest internal medicines to correct the balance.
2.Balancing diet – Eating varied diet high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans is a rich source of phytoestrogen. Variety & moderation are important in diet.
3.Balancing Apana vata – Apana vata governs the genitor-urinary tract, elimination & menstruation. Imbalance of Apana vata causes menstrual disorders, constipation, pain in lower abdomen & legs. To regulate Apana vata include warm water, figs, black rasins, castor oil, cumin, asafetida, ajmoda , fenugreek in regular food. Regular yoga exercises are also helpful.
4.Panchakarma – more serious symptoms & signs of deeper imbalance require panchakarma therapy.
